Modern Cartoons I Love Part 1: Flapjack!

Posted by bradwick on July 23, 2009

Hey gang, I read something in the last week or 2 about Chowder (on cartoon network) getting canceled and Cartoon Network pushing in a new era of live action shows. Now I don’t know if the canceling of chowder was related to the programing shift, but it got me worried about the fates of some of my other favorite modern cartoons and how i should do something to spread the word about their greatness. So I had a day or two of down time at work and thought I would do some illustrations based on some of my favorite cartoons on the air right now just to show a little support. So let’s kick it off with Flapjack!

Flapjack is funny, Gross, and cute all at the same time! Love it! And you will too if you check it out on Cartoon Network.

Here are the pencils:

And here is the slightly modified final image. I was going to ink this with a pen and make it a little more “on model” but The pens I had dried up , so I went with the ol’ brush (Raphael #2). I thought it turned out alright. This was my first time drawing them, and I couldn’t really find any model sheets, but I had some fun with it. I did all the background stuff in photoshop using some old watercolor textures I had scanned in for a music video we did. I was really surprised how true to the show the textures looked. yay me.

I’ll post my Mighty B Illustration next week!

Lumber Jack Comic!

Posted by bradwick on July 20, 2009

This is my story from the 2009 FLUKE anthology that I edited along with J Chris Campbell. I did 3 of these stories but they didn’t work lay out the way i wanted them to so I only printed this one. I don’t think it’s all that great on it’s own. Maybe I’ll ink up the last two and throw them up here sometime soon. The coloring is not what I wanted but I really wanna keep throwing up the web comics on a weekly basis so I figured some color is better than no color right?

Michael Jackson Comic

Posted by bradwick on July 14, 2009

I know just about everyone and their mother has done some kind of tribute to Michael Jackson at this point. But Wide Awake Press decided

to put together a little book of sketches and comics from some cool cartoonists Like Josh Latta, Sarah Louise Wahrhaftig, Jim Mahfood, Rob Ullman and J Chris Campbell. It’s called Off The Wall and I know it will be at San Diego comic con next week, and I assume it will be up for sale at wide awake press some time after that. Here is my mind-blowing/life changing comic in it’s entirety:
